A first birthday is a big deal—and cake smash sessions should be fun, relaxed, and completely stress-free for you. That’s why I bring everything right to your home. From the backdrop and styling to the cake and all the little details, I take care of the setup so you can simply bring your baby and enjoy watching them celebrate.
This guide will walk you through a few simple things you can do before I arrive. But don’t worry about making everything perfect.

before i arrive
A little preparation can help your little one feel happy and comfortable when we begin.
● Give your baby a good nap before the session if possible.
● Feed them a normal meal before I arrive, but avoid filling them up right before the cake smash.
● Have a clean diaper ready for the start of the session.
● Dress baby in something simple and easy to remove.
● Keep their favourite soother, toy, or comfort item nearby if they use one.
● Have a few wipes and a change of clothes ready for afterward.
Most importantly, don’t stress if your little one doesn’t cooperate with the plan. One-year-olds have their own ideas, and that’s part of the fun.
preparing your home
you do not need to clean your house for me.
Really...I’ll only need a small amount of space to create the setup.
Before I arrive, simply:
● Clear a small area for the cake smash setup.
● Move anything fragile or valuable away from the immediate area.
● Put away anything you’d rather not have in the background.
● Make sure we have enough room for your little one to move around safely.
That’s all.
No deep cleaning. No rearranging your entire home. No stress.

what should baby wear?

Before the cake smash, I like to photograph your little one in their first outfit before things get messy. These are the "personality portraits". It allows your little one to get comfortable and also to capture some of those giggles, claps, and just their overall little personality that's starting to shine through.
When choosing an outfit, look for something that complements your theme without competing with it. Simple, timeless pieces photograph beautifully, but if you have a specific outfit you’ve been dreaming of, bring it along! I have several options in my client closet as well.
For outfit number two, things can get messy—and that’s exactly what we’re hoping for. So don’t choose anything you’re worried about getting a little cake on.

When we first begin, I’ll give your little one some time to get comfortable with the setup.
They may want to look around, touch everything. That’s completely normal. I won’t rush them.
We’ll let them warm up to the new surroundings and follow their lead.
Sometimes the sweetest photographs happen before they even get to the cake.

Your little one may dive right in.
They may gently poke the cake.
They may completely ignore it.
They may eat it with their hands.
They may decide the cake is not for them at all.
Every baby is different—and there’s no “right” way to do a cake smash.
I’ll be there to capture their personality, reactions, curiosity, and all the messy little moments in between.
Don’t worry about getting your baby to smile or interact with the cake.
Just let them be themselves.

I’ll arrive at your home with the setup, cake, props, styling pieces, lighting, and everything needed for your session.
I’ll create the setup, photograph your little one, and take care of the details.
You simply bring your baby and let the celebration begin.
